Growing up in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, Anthony Sisto remembers watching his father make furniture as a hobby in the small shop he created in their basement. So it came as no surprise that when he graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Antique Restoration in 1997, Anthony chose a different artistic path than most of his classmates.
Instead of restoring some of the world's most precious antique pieces for New York City's biggest auction houses, Anthony chose to be a freelance set carpenter. He spent the first few years after graduation building and installing sets for catalogue photo shoots and displays for the chain of Delia's teen apparel stores opening across the country. While working with some of New York's most sought-after Art Directors on these sets and on other music videos, commercials and magazine photo shoots, he developed a taste for mid-century modern furniture.
From his contacts in the design industry, Anthony started working with decorators and interior designers, building custom-made pieces for their clients. In 2001 he began designing and building his own modern classic furniture in his Williamsburg workshop. He moved to his own workshop in Sunset Park in 2014.
